This My Nature Outing project inquires into questions surrounding sustainable design and examines local efforts at the University of Pittburgh. My Nature Outing is sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh's John C. Mascaro Center for Sustainable Engineering and the Office of the Provost's Year of Data and Society.
Sustainable design are designs that are efficient and has a important purpose. We should share sustainable designs all over the world to help and improve places.

Thriftsburgh is a clothing thriftstore donated by students to then be sold inexpensively to other students who may not have the funds to buy more expensive clothing. This idea for a campus thriftstore is genius; its giving students a way to donate clothing they dont want while also conveniently allowing students to buy new clothing on campus.

I interviewed Bella. I asked Bella's thoughts on these different sustainable designs.
These gardens are gardens full of native plants and trees that attract pollinating insects, as well as give shade and a place for students to study in nature. Not only is it a habitable place for both animals and students, the gardens also consumes rain. We should expand this design to help the environment and so people can enjoy nature.
The Bike Cave is a workshop to repair and restore old and broken bikes that were donated. They then sell the improved bikes, mostly aimed to college students to get around on campus. These bikes are very inexpensive, ranging from 20$-120$. Anywhere could have Bike Caves; anyone can donate and any bike can be repaired to sell to people. In addition to being inexpensive and helpful to students, riding bikes also improves the environment.
Natural rain drains are strategically placed plants to use rainwater and to help flooding. This is important to use excess rainwater but to also provide pollinating insects more plants. These Natural Rain Drains are convenient and can be easily placed on sidewalks.
